Two of the world's most respected and ground-breaking film makers are keen on our project - and we couldn't be more excited. Approaching high-profile artists, film makers and creative people is always a hit and miss affair, but we think the strength of Breathing Humans into Buildings is demonstrated by the interest expressed by none other than Wim Wenders and Todd Haynes.
Wim Wenders needs little introduction - multi-award-winning auteur, Wings of Desire, Buena Vista Social Club and Paris, Texas are just three of his works that have become classic pieces of film. He is credited with creating a visual language that invites the viewer into a conversation about his subject matter - exactly what drew us to him when thinking about our project.
Todd Haynes is fast catching up with Wim in terms of awards. His examination of fifties mores, Far From Heaven, and his left-field take on the life of Bob Dylan, I'm Not There are just two examples of Todd's ability to examine popular themes from a perspective completely differentiated from the standard Hollywood take. Our project sent Todd into a spin of what he himself terms 'musings':
“The concept immediately made me think of interiors and exteriors--and the ways our spectral lives, glued to our screens inside our dwellings, could be transposed onto the exteriors of those dwellings, especially through the medium of projection and illumination. What if the virtual travelling we do inside could be reflected on our exteriors, moving from interior to exterior, from the exclusivity (and anonymity) of the private to the spectacle inclusiveness of the public?”
We're hoping for many more musings such as this from Todd.
