The 12 winners have been announced. Have your say:

Why do we in Scotland only get one event/ installation when the rest of the UK get one for each area? North West and North East England get one each. Londan and the South East of Engalnd have also been awarded one each - are they not in the same area at least very close? Couldn't we at least have had one for the central belt and one for the highlands?

I think that lottery money is public money, and that it is reasonable for any UK citizen to raise their concerns when they think it is being spent rashly - whether they play the lotto or not.

To those protesting about the use of Lottery funds - don't buy then, that way it's not your money being 'wasted'.

Complete and utter bollocks - totally crap - BAD use of our bloody lottery money. Give me bricks in the Tate any day over this.

A Facebook campaign has been started. Apparently £500,000 is what is needed to keep Hillend Ski Slope open.....it's a no-brainer!

Seething mad

Complete outrage. I would happily bet that the VAST majority of people in this country would think this was an almost unimaginable waste of lottery money - THEIR lottery money. Shame on all involved in the decision making for this 'project'

This is a bloody outrage. I live in the Borders and would happily toddle along with banners and suchlike to protest....and I'm a professional artist! Aaaarrgghh

It's laughable that the panel say that the winning project will bring people together in a subtle and discrete way. It seems to me that they've completely missed the point of all of it - that ATL is about bringing art to the public and celebrating this once-in-a lifetime event. Ironically, by picking this project, they've ensured that only a tiny handful of people will see the end result of half a million pounds. I can't think of a bigger waste of public money. Even the Millenium Dome had more going for it than this... What an embarassment for Scotland.

C Campbell Glasgow

Absolutely dreadful. Half a million pounds on a football pitch that will be used for 2 amateur football matches and a day of unspecified "events" that no one will go to because it's in the middle of a forest in the middle of nowhere.

It is then intended that it will all overgrow and the resulting overgrown mess is going to be a work of art because it looks like an overgrown football pitch that the artist once came across as a child in Germany, and because the artist is interested in the theme of decay.

So what we're saying that is that the end artistic result of all this will be so good that we actually need an explanation from the artist as to why it is good. Do we need an explanation as to why Mahler 9 is good? or the cistine chapel?

I love art, but when such huge sums are wasted on quirky claptrap like this I can't help but think of the opportunity cost. Money in this kind of quantity could be used to save lives. Somebody please stop this disgracefully wasteful project.

What a pointless waste of time and money.

This decision is ludicrous and a totally missed opportunity. Why is so much public money being spent on something with such little public benefit?

Anonymous

'Artists take the lead'. Im sorry but I don't really understand that statement, shouldn't it read 'Nepotism takes the lead', as usual.

NVA are lightyears ahead, there simply isn't any competition
Stimulating, thought provoking, it's a joy

Have these people (Arts council) gone completely mental?
Maybe Scottish Borders council will have the guts to deny planning permission.

if the selection panelists intention is to generate a raging debate about the validity of conceptual art then well done. result!

If they wished to stir further controversy by choosing a project that estranges the ability of art to enrich our lives...again in the back of the net! well done!

Scoreline.

Incomprehensible indulgent nonsense 2

Environmental & cultural enrichment Nil

reality check

I agree with the poster who suggested that the money would be better spent creating a permanent football facility in a community where its needed. Why destroy a forest for this when there is wasteland all over our cities and plenty of half finished building sites where the developers have pulled out now the money's gone?

Anonymous - What is the point in soending so mych money on something temporary? Why not think about asking the same question to the organisors of the 2012 Olympics, or any Olympics for that matter. Do you not understand that this work may be attempting to create debate about that subject?

Darren

What a total waste of money. Art? He must of been up all night thinking that up eh?
Why not spend the half million pounds helping poor areas of London?
The London Olympics are a farce and Seb Coe gobbles Donkeys

Textile Student, what is the point in spending so much money on something temporary ? as a fine art graduate I find this a revolting example of waste.

Anonymous

Glasgow art student , you have almost restored my faith in the art world ....ALMOST !!

Textile student - nothing wrong with debate ... as long as it doesn't waste time and MONEY which this does !! I would also contend that some "artists" seek controversy for the free publicity and to massage their own egos !!
