Looking at Sites

First Severn Crossing

Our discussions with site owners and managers have so far been very positive, with all those contacted giving a positive response and a very enthusiastic welcome to the idea of the Luminous Landscapes project. If we get through this stage, there will be a lot of detailed negotiations about what's feasible, but at this stage its very exciting to think about the fantastic potential for bringing sound and light to these spectacular landmarks.
John and I are having regular meetings to refine our ideas and put our presentation together. We meet in his studio which is far more civilised than my workshop as I blacked out the windows some time ago to make it easier to work with light. Our idea of illuminating the original Severn crossing has moved one step closer, with the owners responding positively to our initial approach. This is very exciting, its such an iconic structure to work with and such an elegant form too. Its such an exposed, windy site that the interplay of the elements may well play a part in controlling the way the bridge is illuminated, altering the light intensity and colour in response to atmospheric pressure and wind speed.
Next week we're meeting with Giles Parbery, who's agreed to act as our production manager for the project. Talking with Giles will help us to think through the project development phase and start thinking about allocating a budget for each location.
